Born in Iowa to a musical family, Keri Johnsrud began singing at a young age alongside her grandmother, mother and sister, all professional vocalists. Surrounded by music, especially jazz, her first public performance was given at the age of seven. As a member of The Iowa Ambassadors of Music, she performed at Westminster Abbey in London, and other landmark locations throughout Europe. Keri received her Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Iowa in Health Promotion but maintained an interest and dedication to music. While enrolled, she performed with The Old Gold Singers and was a member of the Newman Singers, touring the country with both groups. In 1999, Keri moved to Chicago to devote her career to singing and creating music. There she met future mentor and friend, pianist Gary Filip, who would introduce her to key players in the Chicago music scene. Around this time she also studied under renowned vocal coach Karyn Sarring, provided voice over talent, contributed to studio recordings, musical theater and performed as the vocalist in a local Classic Rock band. An expansive range of experiences has led Keri closer to the music that she feels “is home and fills my soul”... Jazz. With strong runs at The Drake Hotel, Pops for Champagne and Vintage Wine Bar, among other premier entertainment venues in the city, she has established herself in the musical community of Chicago. She has earned the respect of her colleagues and become an artist who is shaping that community today. Her debut album, All Blue, has achieved international interest and been well received since its release a short time ago. With this album she has assembled a group of musicians to produce fresh perspectives on lesser known gems and inspiring reinvention of classic favorites.
